I am Professor Olubukola Monisola Oyawoye—a teacher, researcher, mentor, and lifelong learner with a deep passion for using knowledge to serve. My academic journey has taken me through degrees in Microbiology up to the PhD level, with added training in education, leadership, and food management. Along the way, I have been privileged to benefit from international fellowships that broadened my outlook and deepened my commitment to excellence.
Over the past three decades, I have had the joy of teaching and mentoring hundreds of students across several Nigerian universities, guiding many of them at undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral levels. My research spans industrial and medical microbiology, environmental health, water safety, bioenergy, and food biotechnology—areas where science meets real human needs.
Professor (Mrs) Olubukola Monisola Oyawoye (née Akinyemi), a distinguished scholar, trailblazing academic, and seasoned administrator, hails from Ijagbo Town in Ilemona Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria. Born on the 3rd of March, 1967 in Ilesa, Osun State, she is a devout Christian of the Baptist denomination and a devoted wife to Professor Enoch Olayiwola Oyawoye. A proud mother of seven remarkable children, she embodies a perfect blend of intellectual depth, moral integrity, cultural rootedness, and unwavering commitment to service.

having been awarded multiple prestigious international fellowships:

Career Path, Research & Mentorship
Prof. Oyawoye is a Professor of Industrial
Microbiology with over 34 years of active academic and administrative
experience, having served in numerous prestigious institutions including Ahmadu
Bello University, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, University of Jos, Adeleke
University, Covenant University, and Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE),
where she currently serves as Director of Advancement Services.
She has supervised over 300 undergraduate and 40 postgraduate students (MSc and
Ph.D), publishing about 80 scholarly articles in reputable journals and
conferences, including Scopus- and Web of Science-indexed publications. Her
research interests span:
- Industrial and Medical Microbiology
- Environmental Microbiology and Water Safety
- Bioenergy, Biogas, and Food Biotechnology
- Antimicrobial resistance and vaccine informatics
- Use of microorganisms in sustainable agriculture
Leadership and Community Service
Beyond academia, Prof. Oyawoye has made significant contributions to national development. She served as the Honourable Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation in Osun State (2011–2014), where she led environmental transformation, championed climate change policies, and initiated state-wide sanitation reforms. She has served as consultant to UNICEF, EU, Federal Ministries, and numerous NGOs on water safety, nutrition, hygiene, and public health. Her role as matron, board chairperson, and trainer to youth and women groups attests to her passion for mentorship and social upliftment.
